Today in the Osteopath Calgary blog, Lavina, an expecting mother and a patient of ours, shares her experience with Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy:
“At my first appointment, I was in the middle of my third pregnancy and was experiencing lots of pain in my lower back making it difficult to walk, my mid back, and my neck causing daily headaches. I couldn’t find relief for more than a couple of days from chiropractors or massage therapists. I assumed that this was just how my body did pregnancy and that I wouldn’t find much relief from anything I tried. A friend convinced me to try Osteopathy, and completely proved me wrong.
After even the first treatment, I could not believe how much better I felt! I could walk without pain, and the constant headaches immediately went away. I had been taking Tylenol daily, and I was able to stop immediately. The treatment itself was completely painless and relaxing. I value the consistent, and long lasting relief from all my pregnancy symptoms: sore back, neck, sciatica, heartburn, even down to positioning baby correctly to help with birth.
A couple weeks after the birth, I came back with my baby, as she was spitting up a lot and was uncomfortable. The treatment completely relaxed her, and immediately resolved some of the spitting up issues she was having.
I regularly recommend Osteopathy to other mothers and tell them that you can experience pain-free pregnancies! You don’t have to suffer through the last half of pregnancy just because that seems like the norm. Osteopaths are far more effective than chiropractors or massage therapists and you don’t have to go as often. Symptoms you didn’t even realize could be fixed (headaches, heartburn, etc), can be relieved, and an osteopath can even manipulate the position of you baby and uterus for optimal labor and delivery. I am so thankful for the friend who recommended osteopathy to me, as my last two pregnancies have been far better than I could have hoped for!”
